Morgan State Expands Campus Housing With Major New Development Partnership

Baltimore, MD — Morgan State University is continuing a major expansion of its campus footprint with a series of new student housing developments, part of a multi-phase partnership with the Maryland Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO).The initiative, which includes newly completed residence halls and additional projects underway, represents a significant investment aimed at supporting the university’s rapid enrollment growth and improving student life on campus. Earlier phases alone added more than 1,200 beds across two major buildings, along with dining and student amenities. University officials say the partnership allows Morgan State to scale housing quickly without placing the full financial burden on the institution. Under the agreement, MEDCO will operate the properties for several decades before ownership eventually transfers back to the university. Additional projects are already in motion. Plans include the renovation of existing housing like Harper-Tubman House, which will create space for more than 200 students, as well as new construction projects that feature modern amenities such as fitness centers, lounges, and large dining facilities. Future phases also point to even larger builds. One proposed development includes a 662-bed residential tower with upgraded campus infrastructure, green design elements, and expanded student services. The housing expansion is seen as a key piece of Morgan State’s broader growth strategy.
